RAISED RATH in Ballyhowne

RAISED RATH

What is recorded here

Mortars may have built the raised rath in Ballyhowne, enclosing a home or a god while men watched the northern sea. Its stones resisted every plough and forgotten decade, preserving the shape of a life that no longer remembers itself.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RAISED RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
