Pier, designed 1845[?]; built 1847[?]; extant 1849, with drag edged tooled limestone ashlar battered walls having rock faced cut-limestone coping centred on tooled cut-limestone "mushroom" mooring posts. Set extending into Rockfleet Bay.
A pier erected by the Commissioners of Public Works (established 1831) representing an integral component of the mid nineteenth-century maritime civil engineering heritage of County Mayo (Reports from Commissioners 1847-8 XXXVII, 144-5).
