What is recorded here

Quay, built 1780; extant 1818, with rock faced limestone ashlar battered walls having tooled cut-limestone rounded coping supporting cast-iron mooring posts. Undergoing reconstruction, 1837.
A lengthy quay front representing an important component of the maritime civil engineering heritage of Westport: meanwhile, aspects of the composition clearly illustrate the continued development or "improvement" of the quay to support 'the exportation of agricultural produce, particularly corn, and the importation of timber from America and the Baltic, and of articles of British manufacture' (Lewis 1837 II, 699).
