What is recorded here

Quarry holds a broken barrow in County Meath, preserving half a mound twelve metres wide after destruction took the rest. It still stands 1.3m high, waiting for the clay urn and calcinated bones to return from memory. The missing half may have fed a road, a farm or a forgotten hunger, but the surviving ridge refuses to disappear completely.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 10 July 2007 Cooper (Price 1942, 109) records the discovery of a 'clay urn with elegant beaded rim round it, containing calcinated bones', when a small mound was being destroyed. Half of mound survives (diam. 12m, max H 1.3m).
