St. Columbkilles Well is associated with St. Columba, a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary, and is traditionally believed to have healing properties, particularly for eye ailments. The name "Calliaghstown" may also reference a local folklore figure, the Cailleach, a mythical hag or crone associated with winter and sacred sites in Irish tradition.
