Dunmanus Bay still laps at the rocky ridge where a cut fosse marks the last defence of Promontory fort. The narrow promontory juts westward like a broken finger, exposing the uneven edge of a ditch hewn through living stone. Dunbeacon Castle watches from beside it, while the sea keeps the older boundary safe.

On the S shore of Dunmanus Bay. This promontory fort comprises a low, narrow, ridge of rocky land (Wth 8.1-13.5m) which projects (L 28.7m) to the WSW. A rock-cut fosse (L 27m N-S; max. Wth 17.6m; max. D 3m) on the landward side of this ridge appears to be all that remains of the defences. The outer edge of the fosse, especially on the S side, is very uneven.
