Jacobite forces led by the Young Pretender, Charles Edward Stuart, fought government (Hanoverian) troops under Sir John Cope near Edinburgh on September 21, 1745. The Jacobites won a decisive victory, boosting their momentum during the Rising of 1745 and leading to their advance into England.
