Post row marks a post-medieval boundary on the soft eastern bank of the Fergus estuary, where roundwood and wattle still lie buried between saltmarsh and Crow Island. Radiocarbon dates place that wooden work between the mid-seventeenth and late twentieth centuries, suggesting the line remained visible or useful long after it was first set. It may have guided carts, excluded stock or simply divided claims along a coast that keeps taking people and things back.
