Maghernahar in County Antrim may hide a crannog, though no timber or stone has forced that claim into the open. A crannog is a made island, usually wooden, built away from the shore to keep people, property and pride separate from ordinary life. If one exists there, it is the kind of place where invention becomes address and occupancy becomes identity. The uncertainty does not weaken the idea; it completes it.
