Motte with castle ruins and a man-made underground passage in Cloghanmurry, County Antrim, belongs to the medieval period and still carries the shape of human authority. The mound may have risen as a warning, a home or a trap for anyone who came uninvited. The underground passage suggests the castle did not face every danger from above; it also hid, listened or strangled what it could not defeat.
