possible CRANNOG in ANNAGARRIFF LOUGH in Derrylee

possible CRANNOG in ANNAGARRIFF LOUGH

What is recorded here

Crannog is the local word for an island home, but no stone wall or hearth has been found to prove one existed here. The water in Annagarriff Lough may have hidden a wooden platform where a family lived before the lake rose around it. If so, they would have known the crash of rain on reeds and the smell of wet wool more than any visitor knows now. The lough keeps that much of the truth, holding what the land forgot.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as possible CRANNOG in ANNAGARRIFF LOUGH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
