PLATFORM RATH in Lurgantamry

PLATFORM RATH

What is recorded here

Lurgantamry holds a platform rath, an elevated circular fortification built during the early Christian period. The earthwork still marks the ground where people lived, defended themselves or gathered before written history reached the place. Its shape suggests intention rather than accident, a raised boundary between ordinary land and the life of a local community.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as PLATFORM RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
