PLATFORM RATH in Killygowan Island

PLATFORM RATH

What is recorded here

Killygowan Island in County Fermanagh holds a platform rath, a raised earthwork built above the surrounding land. The distinction between a flat field and a lifted stage is the whole point. A person standing inside the ring would have seen further, been seen further, and owned the horizon before the horizon owned them.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as PLATFORM RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
