Pit in Boyerstown

Archaeological testing (04E0581) by N. Fairburn of Testing Area 8 of Contract 3 in advance of the M3 motorway identified two potential archaeological monuments, Boyerstown 6 and 7 (excavations.ie 2004:1157). No. 6 was resolved at the time (Fairburn 2004, 8) and consisted of two pits c. 14m apart. A large pit (diam. c. 3m; max. D 0.34m) was filled with a loose peaty clay with silt, charcoal and heat-shattered stones. The E pit (diam. 1.6m; D 0.2m) was filled with loose peaty clay mixed with silt, charcoal and heat-shattered stone. They are not troughs but are from a burnt mound.
