This black commemorative plaque records: PETER DE WINT Born 21 January 1784 Died 30 June 1849 Master of the art of painting water-colour, in association with his brother-in-law WILLIAM HILTON RA. Born in Lincoln 3 June 1786 Died 30 December 1839 Keeper of the Royal Academy from 1827, Purchased the site in 1814 and built this house wherein both lived while resident in Lincoln
Peter De Wint and William Hilton were prominent British watercolour painters of the early 19th century; De Wint was celebrated for his landscapes, while Hilton, a Royal Academician, served as Keeper of the Royal Academy and collaborated closely with De Wint both professionally and personally.
