Penmark Castle stands as a ruined stone complex on river cliffs above the Duffryn Brook, holding the memory of the Umfraville family for over two centuries. Its inner courtyard still shows a strong earth bank and a round tower that once looked out over the water, while cattle now graze the old orchard where the castle fell into shadow. The place keeps its edge, hiding behind fruit trees and private gates, but the cliff and surviving masonry still mark the boundary between human ambition and the patient return of the land.
