On a steep, wet, W-facing hillslope, and within a large field system (CL004-016001-). ‘Tobergeeraun’, a holy well (CL004-019----) stands c. 4.5m to the ENE. A low (H0.3m) circular (diam. 3m) cairn of loose stones may be a penitential station associated with the nearby holy well. This site is associated with a penitential station, traditionally used by pilgrims undertaking acts of penance, often linked to the veneration of Saint Gobnait or local saints known for their ascetic practices. The nearby holy well, Tobergeeraun, may have been used for ritual washing or healing, reflecting a broader tradition of water-based devotion in early Christian Ireland.
