What is recorded here

Parknakilla Childrens Burial Gd is a hidden rectangular grave in County Cork, Ireland, named on an 1842 map but still marked only by a low scarp, steep edge, field fences and overgrown grass. It is a childrens burial ground, yet no markers remain to tell which child belongs where or when they died. The place holds a quiet danger because intimacy has been erased; love and loss are buried beneath ordinary grazing land.
Named Parknakilla on OS 6-inch map (1842). In rough grazing. Rectangular area (L 34.1m; Wth 19.6m) defined by low scarp to N (H 0.6m); steep natural scarp to E; field fences to S and W. No grave markers noted; heavily overgrown. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
