Old Castle in Swansea dates to the Medieval period when armed men watched the harbour and controlled the town below. Stone walls rose above the water, casting shadows across boats and forcing travellers to acknowledge the power seated inside. The castle has vanished from ordinary memory, yet its absence leaves a hole in the local landscape. Swansea still carries the shape of that lost guard tower in its name, pride and maritime identity.

Swansea Castle was built in the late 11th or early 12th century by the de Londres family, Norman lords who controlled the area following the conquest of Gower. It is remembered as a key stronghold in the medieval Welsh Marches and as the birthplace of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, the last native Prince of Wales.
