Ogham stone in Monataggart

Ogham stone

What is recorded here

Discovered some time after 1873 in the vicinity of three other ogham stones (CO061-022002-, CO061-022003-, CO061-022004-) but unlike them not removed from the locality (Quarry 1898, 382). Macalister (1945, 119, no. 121) found it 'lying in the farmyard of Monataggart'. He read it as VERGOSO MACI LLOMINACCA, but when he returned to check it, he 'found the stone completely covered with farm rubbish' (ibid.). When inspected in 1992, this stone was lying beside a field fence close to the farmyard. It is not possible to make out more than a few faint scores of the inscription. (Power et al. 1997, no. 7981) Compiled by: Nora White Date of upload: 3 March 2016
