Killberehert is a dead name on a living map, the kind of place where stones are pulled from the earth like teeth from a gum. The chamber is gone, the door is gone, the field has changed hands so often the name has blurred into folklore. But the angle remains. That is why the chamber must be built around the angle, not the other way around. A chamber is a promise that the angle will still be measurable when the person returns. The chamber is the measurement made visible.

This stone was discovered in 1826, later presented to the Royal Cork Institution (Brash 1869, 254) and now in British Museum (Macalister 1945, 108, No. 106). Brash gave the find spot as 'in a killeen at Leades, on the townland of Deelish, and parish of Aghabulloge' (Brash, ibid.), but then added 'the actual place where the stone was found is known as Killberehert' (ibid.). There is no known burial ground in Deelish (Leades is name of house at S end of Deelish) but the burial ground of 'Killberehert' (CO060-122----) is 1 mile to the W of Deelish in the townland of Kilberrihert. The exact findspot is therefore not certain. The stone was damaged when removed to Cork; it measures '3 feet 21/2inches in height, 13 inches by 81/2 inches at the widest part' (ibid.).
