Thirty shallow trenches bit into the Monagea earth beside the old church, pulling up forgotten ditches and a road long buried under grass. Kate Taylor and her crew worked the soil until an iron billhook and animal bones emerged, proving people once lived, worked and worshipped there. The graveyard stands above what the trenches revealed: a medieval field system where domestic life and small industry shared the same ground.

This is the record for the excavation by Kate Taylor (04E1232) of thirty test-trenches 'in the vicinity of a medieval church and graveyard at Glebe, Monagea. A number of ditches and gullies were discovered, some of which were fairly substantial. It is likely that the features represent part of a medieval field system and possibly the line of the old road to the church. A small assemblage of animal bone was recovered, along with an iron billhook and a fragment of slag, indicating both domestic and small-scale industrial activity.'
