Stone sculpture

What is recorded here

A carving of an angel holding a shield (dims c. 0.3m x c. 0.3m; T 0.1m) was found in removing a stone wall on the N side of the old Julianstown to Duleek road near where a fragment of a wayside cross survives (ME027-010001-). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 16 April, 2015
Likely medieval in origin, the carving may reflect Christian traditions or local folklore associated with protection and spiritual guardianship. Its proximity to a fragment of a wayside cross suggests a possible liturgical or commemorative function along a former pilgrimage or trade route.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
