What is recorded here

Situated on a N-facing slope overlooking the inner harbour of Wexford. Archaeological testing (07E0914) identified the remains of a burnt mound spread (dims c. 27m x c. 23m). It was fully excavated under the same licence and proved to be a number of layers of burnt clay with broken stones that overlay a subrectangular straight-sided and flat-bottomed trough (dims 2.8m E-W; 1.4m N-S; max. D 0.75m) filled with clays that contained burnt stone, and which had some post-holes and stake-holes associated with it. There were depressions just to the SW (dims 5.5m NE-SW; 4.7m NW-SE; max. D 0.9m) and c. 5m to the S (dims 2.9m E-W; 2.5m; N-S; max. D 0.2m), the larger of which may have been a natural pond or spring.
