Norma Stoker was born at 23 Westland Row in Dublin on 26 March 1905, the daughter of Wimbledon champion Frank Stoker. She carried that athletic bloodline into her own hands, winning Irish badminton singles titles from 1934 to 1937 and competing in tennis finals during the early 1930s. The house may have echoed with racket strikes and laughter, a lively Stoker household where skill was ordinary and ambition was expected.
