Niall Andrews

Niall Andrews was born in Dublin on 19 August 1937 into a family where republican blood ran deep, his father Todd having fought in the War of Independence and helped found Fianna Fáil. After emigrating to the United States in 1953, he worked in television journalism and served as a US Army stenographer during the Korean War before returning to Ireland in 1961 to join RTÉ. He re-entered public life through the Dáil in 1977, eventually becoming one of Charles Haughey’s most ardent allies and leading a dramatic demonstration outside Fianna Fáil headquarters in 1983.
