Mud, fire and repeated choice built the first neighbourhood in that northern bush. People returned across seasons, learning which soil held water and which stone struck sparks. They died there, buried children there and taught young hands to shape tools without warning or written law. The field gave up more life than it took because understanding grew through patience.
