Detached two-bay single-storey gate lodge, extant 1837, on a rectangular plan; two-bay single-storey rear (south) elevation. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles centred on red brick Running bond chimney stack having red brick capping, moss-covered cut-granite coping to gables, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Roughcast coursed rubble stone walls with concealed cut-granite flush quoins to corners. Pointed-arch door opening (east) with cut-granite block-and-start surround centred on cut-granite keystone framing timber boarded door. Pointed-arch window opening (west) with cut-granite sill, and cut-granite block-and-start surround centred on cut-granite keystone framing remains of timber fitting. Pointed-arch window openings (south) with cut-granite sills, and cut-granite block-and-start surrounds centred on cut-granite keystones framing remains of timber fittings. Set back from line of road at entrance to grounds of Mountcashel Lodge with granite ashlar piers to perimeter having cut-granite monolithic capping supporting wrought iron double gates.
A gate lodge surviving as an interesting relic of the Mountcashel Lodge estate with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact rectilinear plan form; the ""pointed"" profile of the openings underpinning a contemporary Georgian Gothic theme with those openings showing restrained granite dressings demonstrating good quality workmanship; and the roof showing diminishing courses of a blue-grey slate.
