What is recorded here

Mounds is a vanished boundary marker on Carrignabinnia Mountain, recorded only through old maps and two surviving cairns nearby. It marked the edge between Ballygeana and Carrigeen Mountain before disappearing from modern satellite images. People may have passed it for generations, reading the local boundary at a glance, but the mound itself has gone.

In rough pasture, on Carrignabinnia Mountain, on the townland boundaries between Ballygeana and Carrigeen Mountain. Boundary cairns (LI050-023001-/002-) lie 70m to the W and 75m to the NW, respectively. Not marked on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Annotated ‘Mound’ on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map. Depicted on the Cassini ed. OSi 6-inch map as a small circular-shaped mound. No surface remains visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimages.
