Mound

What is recorded here

There were traditions about an area known as 'Sean Dún', the old fort at Woodstown, which was demolished when the railway line was built and a large quantity of bones were discovered (Power, 1952, 367). This old fort could be a reference to the enclosure (WA009-006----) or the large enclosure with evidence of Viking and earlier occupation (WA009-019----). Power, Rev. P. (1952) The placenames of the Decies. (second ed.) Cork University Press. Date of upload/revision: 06 January 2011 Compiled by: Michael Moore

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
