What is recorded here

Mound in Rathmore is a small earthwork in County Carlow, about fifteen metres across and three metres high, with trees growing on its summit. No definite ancient marks remain, but it may be a remnant of a former castle or church site. Under the soil and roots, shadows of walls or altars may still wait for someone to remember them.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Small mound (diam. c. 15m; H 3m) consisting chiefly of soil and roots (trees growing on summit). No definite signs of antiquity, but possibly remnant of mound connected with former castle (CW003-019----) or church site (CW003-021----).
