Garrannaguilly holds a low burial mound beside a ruined circular rath, marked by whitethorns and likely disturbed before anyone wrote it down. The mound may have hidden a small stone chamber, now lost or scattered, while the rath stands as a broken ring of earth in nearby fields. Together they suggest a place where people lived, buried their dead, and were later forgotten by the very land that kept them.

In Carrigan’s manuscript notes (unpublished), he describes two enclosures (KK005-062001-; KK005-062004-) in Garrannaguilly. This is immediately followed by, ‘The rath [KK005-066----] in Thorpe’s land’, which he describes as being, ‘circular and about 31yds [28m] in diameter; in a very ruinous condition: some whitethorns grow around the ring. Within 4 [3.65m] or 5yds [4.57m] to the NE side is a low artificial sepulchral mound or tumulus (where the cist must have been found) which appears to have been disturbed or excavated’. It is possible that the rath and mound are both also located in Garrannaguilly townland, though they may also be located on neighbouring townlands in the vicinity.
