Mound

What is recorded here

A small mound was noted in 1996 during clearance by a bulldozer in advance of the construction of Cregaun housing estate in Ennis town. It was almost alongside a large glacial erratic with an inscribed face (CL033-118----). A small circular hut site (CL033-176----) was also noted in the immediate vicinity. (Coffey 1996, 57) Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 16 July 2014
A Neolithic passage tomb; 4000–2500 BCE. Its location near an inscribed glacial erratic suggests possible ritual or symbolic significance in the prehistoric landscape.
