MOTTE: KILWAUGHTER MOTE in Demesne

MOTTE: KILWAUGHTER MOTE

What is recorded here

Kilwaughter Mote is a medieval motte in County Antrim, still standing as a scheduled archaeological site. Its earthwork may have been a watchtower, a boundary marker, or a local lord's stronghold. The shape survives even if the building is gone. A person climbing it would have seen the same land that shaped the decision to build there.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as MOTTE: KILWAUGHTER MOTE. Recorded period: MEDIEVAL. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
