Motte and bailey earthworks still mark Carnkirn, though medieval hands built them and centuries have softened every edge. The fort likely watched a narrow coastal approach, forcing travellers to reveal themselves before reaching the settlement below. Its disappearance under grass and memory is typical: small defensive sites across County Antrim vanished from everyday life long before archaeology gave them names again.
