Dromore Mound in Ballyvicknacally stands as a medieval motte and bailey, its earthworks still marking the place where power once gathered. The mound may have risen as a fortress, a watchtower or a symbol of local authority, while the surrounding land witnessed ordinary life in shadow of its height. Even without a surviving name for its builder, the shape preserves the certainty that people valued visibility, defence and presence enough to carry soil upward.
