What is recorded here

Monument marks two vanished wayside cairns on opposite sides of the Tully to Salrock road, about 250m apart. They may have been penitential stations or coffin-halts, repeating a rhythm along the route toward Salrock. Whatever they were, they disappeared from the verge, leaving only the road and the memory of a journey measured in small stone stops.

On opposite sides of the road from Tully to Salrock. Two small black circles are indicated on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map, c. 250m apart, on S verge of, and slightly to N of, this road. No visible surface trace of either survives. The sites of four other possible ways cairns (GA010-047----; GA010-042----; GA010-044----; GA010-045----) are known along this road. They may have been penitential stations or coffin-halts on the way to the ecclesiastical remains at Salrock (GA010-008001-).
