Moated site in Kildrum

In level pasture. Trapezoidal area (66m NE-SW; 65m NW-SE) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1.2m; ext. H 1.3m) on NW, E and SSE sides, and by scarp on WSW side; external fosse (D 0.7m) surviving on E, SSE and WSW sides. Gateway at SW end of SSE bank and at N corner. Fosse wet and boggy to E and WSW, flooded to SSE. Interior recently ploughed; from inside centre of NW bank low linear bank extends SE to centre and terminates in irregularly shaped mound of soil, different in colour to bank soil; at centre is extensive spread of black soil, raised slightly above interior level. North angle of interior enclosed by L-shaped feature visible as soilmark. Depression (diam. 3m; D 0.75m) inside E bank. Man-made underground passage (13279) in NW bank; second Man-made underground passage (13278) c. 10m to NE.
