Moated site

What is recorded here

On a slight W-facing slope, near the base of a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture. An annexe (TS058-048002-) is located immediately to the N. Rectangular slightly raised area (dims. 28m N-S; 24m E-W) with slightly rounded corners defined by an internal broad earthen bank (overall Wth 7.2m; Wth at top 2m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.3m) with an external wide flat-bottomed fosse (overall Wth 7m; Wth at base 3-3.5m; D 0.2-0.8m). The N-S orientated bank defining the E side of neighbouring annex extends to the outer edge of the fosse at NNW. From SW-NW the bank and fosse have been removed with a N-S orientated field boundary lying along the line of the removed bank. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior slopes slightly facing W and is clear of overgrowth. Due to the underlying natural slope, external ground level is slightly higher than the level of the interior at NE-SE.
