Milltown Castle is a ruined four-storey limestone tower house beside the Clodiagh River in County Tipperary, built in the late 16th or early 17th century and already described as destroyed in 1640. Its surviving eastern wall still holds white limewash inside a ground-floor arrow slit, while the missing western end likely hid the entrance and stairway. The upper floors once had wider windows and wooden floors, suggesting that beneath its defensive batter lived people who valued light, heat and ordinary comfort as much as fear.
