What is recorded here
A house and two mills at Grange are marked on an estate map of the earl of Mountrath estate dated 1730 in NLI (n. 3947, p 3618 (3)). Another map of the same area dated 1770 in NLI (ms. 2793 No. 17) has the statement 'Mills of Grange - This lough communicates from the said mills to the Shannon with boats of 20 tons. Therefore are valuable, the mills belonging to Grange, earl of Mountrath's estate.' The second-mentioned mill was not encountered, although it was probably part of the same complex as the surviving mill (RO023-199002-).
