Wall Fell still holds the twenty-fourth milecastle, a small stone break in the great northern line. It marked distance for soldiers walking the endless moor, giving the wall one more measurable joint. The fell exposes that marker to weather and memory, keeping the military grid alive long after the people who used it disappeared.
