What is recorded here

Castle Nick marks the thirty-ninth milecastle on the northern border. It is a small military checkpoint where the road crossed the wall, not a grand castle at all. The misleading name suggests false grandeur, but the site remains a useful coordinate for measuring the long line of fortifications stretching across Northumberland.
Milecastle 39 (Castle Nick) is shown as a archaeological place on the public map of Northumberland. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
