Middle Hurth Edge is a sea cliff composed primarily of Carboniferous limestone, formed around 340 to 320 million years ago through the accumulation of marine sediments. It is notable for its exposure of durable limestone strata, which contribute to the characteristic coastal topography of the Durham coast and provide important geological context for the region's Carboniferous geology.
