In mid-1940s during road widening Sunday's Well (CO074-05402-) was exposed. Shell midden extending W from W side of well for '40 feet' was examined by O'Kelly (1946, 4-5). Midden contained oyster shells; ox, sheep and pigbones; 'sherds of glazed pottery typical of the 17th and 18th centuries AD'. O'Kelly (1946, 5) suggests 'because of the stratigraphical relationship of the midden to the well, it is possible that refuse was left behind by pilgrims who came to make "rounds" there'.
