Midden in Rusheens (tirawley By.)

Midden

What is recorded here

Located on the NW shoreline of the estuary of the River Moy. A midden is exposed in section in the eroded vertical scarp which borders the shoreline. The midden layer is located c. 0.7-1m below the sodline and at a height of c. 2m above the base of the scarp. The layer (L c. 6m; D 0.15-0.2m) consists of oyster shells lying in a matrix of dark brown/grey sandy soil which appears to incorporate some burnt stone. The section face is partly concealed by vegetation. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 19 September 2012
