Midden in Baile Mhic An Daill

Midden

What is recorded here

Exposed in section at the coastline, on the W side of Dingle Harbour, is a small number of oyster shells in a pocket of dark soil. The shells occur at the base of a tree root, and the surrounding ground appears to have been modified into a bank-like feature. The shells are of dubious archaeological significance. (information: A. McCarthy) The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 3. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 3 August 2013
