Midden in An Teanach

Westropp (JRSAI 1914, 69) recorded 'two unusually large middens, over 10 feet [3.05m ] high to the south, consisting of heaps, 4 to 5 feet [1.2-1.5m] thick, of burnt stones, black mould, charcoal and shells - oysters, cockles, limpets, periwinkles, and razor shells - with broken bones'. He described their location as 'in a hollow beside the nearly vanished old track from Annagh to Binghamstown,..' and he depicted their approximate location on a sketch plan.
