Inishcaltra is a metalworking site beside the enclosure surrounding St. Brigid’s church in County Clare, Ireland. Excavations in 1970-72 revealed intense activity through numerous pits, clinker, slag and charcoal, while a radiocarbon date placed part of the use between AD 1034 and 1205. Two decorated querns joined the remains, suggesting the forge also sustained daily life rather than serving only craft.

To the W of the enclosure (CL029-009007-) surrounding St. Brigid’s church (CL029-009006-). During excavations by de Paor in 1970-72 (Licence no. E000180) an area of intense metalworking activity was found here with numerous pits, a scatter of clinker and slag. One large pit had been repeatedly refilled with clay and redug, with small hollows showing traces of burning and containing much charcoal. A pit in this area has been radiocarbon dated to Cal AD 1034-1205 (UBA-30140) (Seaver and O'Sullivan 2015, 11-13). Two decorated querns were also found in this area.
