Memorial stone in Unknown Townland

Memorial stone

What is recorded here

Edmund Reilly sleeps beneath a wide stone in the nave floor of St Audeon's medieval parish church, his marker bearing an IHS in false relief surrounded by chevrons. The church has watched over County Dublin for centuries, but this particular slab still points to one man rather than a whole kingdom. Someone walked that nave, chose the stone, and accepted that memory needs a shape large enough to hold.
In the nave floor of St Audeon's medieval parish church (DU018-020075-) is a memorial slab which marks the burial place of Edmund Reilly (L 1.86m, Wth 0.98m). It bears an IHS in false relief in a sunken panel with a surround of chevrons. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 17 August 2012
